Hi! I'm Keara and I love talking and hearing about baby sleep and almost everything to do with Momma, baby, and family wellness. I have a six-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter. They are my greatest treasures and I take this business of โmommingโ more seriously than anything else in my life!
When I was pregnant with my first child, I feared the looming reality I had heard so many of my friends and family members had shared: I wouldn't sleep for three years - or more! Since I have epilepsy, regular life is not possible (or safe) for me without sufficient sleep. So I knew I needed to figure out how to get this child to sleep in order for me to function properly as a human, let alone a new mom. I worked hard to learn methods that would work for us and stayed committed to the cause. We have endured many typical and atypical sleep challenges so I can still relate to many parents' experiences. I didn't just get lucky with having "good sleepers." Thankfully, I can say we've overcome those hurdles and both my children now sleep well and it allows us to function in healthy family rhythms. It's crucial because it's just the three of us!
How did I end up pursuing sleep consulting? I've worked hard to create balance and harmony in many areas of my life after significant adversity and instability. Grateful for the unwavering empathy and support of friends and family during times I've needed it most, I'm now here to relate to your situation and help you. It brings me great joy and fulfillment to support others in creating harmony in their home!
If we can get a hold of something in our world, build stability, and predict its success every single day, it makes all the difference. Our little ones need to be able to count on their own ability to sleep just as much as we need to as their parents. That's why advocating for healthy sleep is so important to me. A foundation of quality rest for the whole family helps us to thrive together.
In terms of education and experience, I am proud to say I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioural Science, and since then I have had the privilege of working in a variety of fields, including areas of child development and community family supports; but most importantly, all with people. I have completed the Brain Story Certification by Alberta Health and Mental Health First-Aid training as well.
My two greatest passions in life are connection and personal empowerment. Parenthood specifically strikes a cord with me here because the identity shift of becoming fully responsible for the care and wellbeing of a new tiny human is one of the most difficult and challenging feats we will ever face. When you add on birth recovery, hormone alterations, significant changes in daily lifestyle and personal motivations, differing family pressures and values, and then sleep deprivation? The odds are stacked against us! I feel for all the parents like you who are finding this season challenging. Our babies are only tiny for a short time, but sometimes these days seem to be never-ending and they stretch us in ways we have never experienced.
I'm here for you! Connect with me and together, we can make things easier.
